Because of the expansion of media into the internet the craziest things can brew. One example of this is Toyota’s new advertising campaign.
Toyota usually relies on boasting about the Toyota Corolla’s reliability, low prices, and safety as their key points in their advertising campaign. I think we can agree that is how most car companies advertise their products.
Although Toyota is a Japanese company, they wanted to appeal to a demographic in the United States with Japanese Media. Their new advertising campaign features Hatsune Miku, a fictional music pop-star based of a speech synthesizing software. I’m not one myself but, this campaign probably appeals to the “Otaku” demographic in the United States. An Otaku is essentially an individual who is obsessed with manga, anime, or video games. The Akihabara media city neighboring Tokyo is often considered their home turf. Toyota’s advertising campaign features various commercials of her as a pop-star in the US. I’m surprised their are enough Otaku in the US to warrant a giant company like Toyota to advertise directly towards them. Toyota even posted a video of a Toyota run Compact Flash Mob in the New York. See for yourself below!
