WHY I đź’™ THE MEDIA .:Eric Gleiser:.

Because of the expansion of media into the internet the craziest things can brew. One example of this is Toyota’s new advertising campaign.

Toyota usually relies on boasting about the Toyota Corolla’s reliability, low prices, and safety as their key points in their advertising campaign. I think we can agree that is how most car companies advertise their products.

Although Toyota is a Japanese company, they wanted to appeal to a demographic in the United States with Japanese Media. Their new advertising campaign features Hatsune Miku, a fictional music pop-star based of a speech synthesizing software. I’m not one myself but, this campaign probably appeals to the “Otaku” demographic in the United States. An Otaku is essentially an individual who is obsessed with manga, anime, or video games. The Akihabara media city neighboring Tokyo is often considered their home turf. Toyota’s advertising campaign features various commercials of her as a pop-star in the US. I’m surprised their are enough Otaku in the US to warrant a giant company like Toyota to advertise directly towards them. Toyota even posted a video of a Toyota run Compact Flash Mob in the New York. See for yourself below!

why i <3 media Kayla C. Perry

My little brother had been going through a really rough time and was finally able to play in his first football game of his 7th grade season. Football means the world to him and he was really looking forward to playing, because of media I was able to see my little brother score his first touchdown from a 70 yard run. My mom recorded it on her phone and sent it to me and my sister. I got to skype him later that night and tell him proud I was of him. I ❤ media!

I heart media because it lets me experience life from more dimensions than would otherwise be possible.  Whether we’re looking at film, literature, games, social media, or anything else the ability to see through another perspective or interact in a new way is important to all aspects of my life.

The fascinating part about my and humanity’s relationship with media is that it’s growing exponentially with Moore’s Law of transistor growth.  Moore’s Law essentially states that the size/speed of computer processors doubles every 18 months.

Eventually in time if that growth continues we will reach a singularity, which I suspect may be when humans merge with technology through cybernetics, augmented reality, and intelligence.  Some people fear what may happen at this point, and although I admit some caution, such potential for new ways to communicate with what is fundamentally media excites me immensely.

I heart media because it allows me to connect with my boss about certain projects he has assigned me while he is out of town.  There are various questions I have about something when working on the task he has assigned to me, and I can’t always just run to his office to ask him.  Media also saves me a trip to his office, even when he is in town, if I just have a quick question needing to be answered.
