Why I heart my media

I think that the way we use media depends on our needs. My uncle doesn’t like being away from home, but Skype and yes, even Google Maps, still allow him to virtually tour the world.
As for myself, I don’t have Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat. The only thing I ‘’needed’’ was Facebook, but honestly: I still prefer talking to people in person.
Via the internet I discovered something called trick riding, seen in westerns and recently Game of Thrones, were people hang off the side of their horses and do all sorts of crazy stuff on top of a horse that’s running at full speed, uncontrolled. We just hope they know what they’re doing.

I don’t post a lot of pictures since it’s just another day in the office for me. I’m actually quite scared to put myself out there for people to judge. But without social media I wouldn’t be able to get someone from Canada to teach a clinic in Belgium. I wouldn’t even know if there where people doing the same thing as me in Belgium. I wouldn’t be able to make the last-minute decision to jump on a plane, borrow someone’s horse and compete in the US. I wouldn’t be able to train with the best trainers in the field or meet some amazing people who allow a person they don’t know to live with them and take their horses to a competition.

Without social media, I would probably end up being overweight, painting pictures of my food and hanging them in front of my house so everyone could be jealous of my awesome, obese meals.
I most certainly wouldn’t be able to do what I love and be able to do anything that’s so unknown.

Why Í heart my media

I heart my media because it brings my friends and family closer to me. Whenever I have a problem or a question, I can always contact my friends and they will give me (good) advice. I have everyone I love on speed-dial on my phone, or listed as favourites now that phones with buttons no longer exist. Everyone is just a click, a phone call or a message away. And it works on both ways too. I love being available for the people I love. I love getting pictures of my friend’s activities or give them advice about their outfit. But I also love being woken up in the middle of the night just to comfort someone because they need a listening ear. And I absolutely love the people I share this with. And with the new media which is available everywhere at all times, I can be available everywhere at all times, when it matters the most, but also when it actually doesn’t really matter but when it is funny anyway.

why i love media

The main reason i love media is because it makes life so much easier. thanks to my weather app i always know when its going to rain and thus what clothes is should wear. thanks to my train/ bus app i always know what time i should leave my home to catch  the right bus. Things would be so complicated without these kind of apps.

I also love that media always prevents me from getting bored. Because if i do I can watch movies, watch my friends latest pictures of just watch other random stuff. Media is always there to keep me busy with whatever.

Because it is addictive

We all love media. We’re spending hours upon hours on websites like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. It’s fun. Right?

Wether media are fun or scary or overrated, not many people want to live without it. Media are not to be ignored. They are everywhere and everything. And when it’s gone? We get scared and confused. This clip illustrates that best, I think:

Why I heart my media

Media connects us all. Whether you are right next to the person or you are both on two different ends of the world, you can be together through media. Especially since I’ve moved to the Netherlands, my love for media has gotten bigger. Even though I can not hang out with my best friends regularly anymore, I can let them be a part of my every day life through texting them, sending them videos on Snapchat and sending them memes I see on Instagram. Not only can I connect with friends and family, but also with strangers all over the world. What is there not to love about that?

Why I heart my media

When I was about 14 years old I started playing mmos like Perfect World International, tera, BnS and World of Warcraft. Through those games I met a lot of people from different countries and cultures. One person who stood out is a guy from India. His name was Aditya and he was hated by the community. Everyone thought he was untrustworthy due to him being an Indian man. And I admit I let that affect me too. I was cautious around him but I learned that he was not untrustworthy at all. He taught me about prejudice, he taught me to be tolerant and he taught me that understanding one another is so very important. He became one of the best friends I’ve ever had.

To me that really is the magic of mmos and social media. Meeting people you’d never be able to meet otherwise. Learning about other cultures and learning how other people live. We need to stand together and support each other.

We can’t do that if we don’t understand each other.

We can’t do that if we don’t open ourselves up to learning about each other.

I heart my media because it brings that understanding just a bit closer.

Why I love media

The reason for why I love media is mainly its availability. It gives everyone the chance to be connected and have the ability to explore and gain more knowledge. Having media at the tip of our fingers allows us to basically do anything we want, anytime we want. You can stay in touch with people abroad which is so important, have entertainment always available and research whenever you want.

I think that media allows everyone to be aware of what is going on in the world which allows for social constructs to continue to change for the better. The media also helps everyone individually in many ways where I think one of the most important things media allows people to do is stay in touch with people they care about which was incredibly difficult in the past. It can also provide people with an escape from reality which is needed sometimes.
