Why I heart my media

Generally I love my media. I have a very long-term relationship with my media since I don’t know when. For me, one of the best things about media is that I can actively participate in the artworks that I love by producing things like fan art and fan fictions about them. It feels great to share with other people what you’ve got after watching or reading something and to know that there are some people out there who think your work is cool. Also, my media allow me to make friends online in a way that was not possible before. The way I make friends in the real world is limited geographically. That is to say, we are friends mostly because we are in the same class or live close and find each other nice people, but we don’t always share the same interest. So every time I start to talk about my favorite band that my friends know nothing about, they get bored quickly. But online everything is different. We are friends because we have the same favorites band and it feels nice to talk about the things I love without constantly worrying about if this is too boring for other people.

The other thing I love about my media is the transmedia storytelling. Transmedia allow me to see the works that I love in different ways. For example, I’m a big fan of Neon Genesis Evangelion, and instead of just watching the anime television series, I can also watch the films, read the comics and play the game. After reading les miserables, I can also watch the film and musical. Each time the story is represented differently in form and sometimes in content as well. It’s fun comparing different versions of the same work in different media.

The last thing I want to mention about why I love my media is that it allows me to stay connected with my friends and families miles away. I’ve only realized that deeply recently. I grew up in the same town and lived there for 20 years. All my families and friends I’ve ever had are all there. Therefore, moving to Amsterdam is the first time that I’m entirely on my own without all the people I know and social media help me to stay connected with them. Moving to a new city in a different country can be very intimidating and social media really help a lot while I was trying to settle in by allowing me to talk with my friends and families whenever I want.
