Why I Heart Media

There are many reasons for my love of media, but perhaps it is most prevalent in its use as a social arrangement. Social media is a relatively new aspect of media and it is fascinating to see just how integral it has become in a media dominated society.

As I have traveled, I have been fortunate to meet some fun, intelligent, and interesting people, some of which have since become good friends of mine. During my travels as well as at home, I found them to become really important people in my life for a number of reasons. With the advent of social media, I can now connect with these friends while separated. I find this really special. Of course I would rather speak with them face-to-face, but knowing that I can easily reach them at a moment’s notice is pretty spectacular. I find a lot of comfort in this.

Why I Heart My Media

The first video I ever made with a camera.  That is my sole reason for why I heart my media. Even though the video lacks fundamental skills and editing , it showed me that I have the passion to pursue media work and that I am not completely hopeless. With the small video , everything was shot in a day and edited that evening. The sheer excitement of choosing music that goes well with your film is a prospect that exhilirates to this day and moment and now , when I see a clip I start matching it with a song or a piece in my head automatically. That is why I Heart My Media.

Why I love my Media…

I love my Media because I can stay in touch with my loved ones, even when they are so far away from me.

I love my Media because of the knowledge it gives. Thanks to social media, I can stay up-to-date with news, events, trending topics and find any information that may help me with my work or studies.

I love my Social Media because I can share my interests and opinions with people from all over the world. As well as I can get inspiration from people with different ethnic and cultural background.

I believe that social platforms like Facebook or Instagram are very helpful for people from creative industries. Now it is much easier to share your talent and get known by thousands or millions social media users.

Perfect media

I love my media, but I hate my media too. Certainly, possibilities of new media are endless. We have all so much to thank for since the start of the progression of this recent way of universal communication. Even though this made the polarisation of opinions possible, it also facilitated the ability of finding many different sources at once. The problem that arises is that the polarised opinions are mostly loudly voiced, thus strike as being very popular.  What I’m curious about is if the younger generations are less (or more?) vulnerable to becoming engrossed in those created frames of specifically selected material, because we grew up in new media while being taught about new media. What value does information have in our society anyhow, if we can’t see real from fake?
Another question we must ask ourselves is if media is a good way of communication. Does it isolate people from real human contact? Or do the possibilities it creates for (virtual) contacts that could have otherwise never happened make up for that issue?
It is difficult having a strong one-sided opinion about media for me, as there are so many contradicting elements in new media. Nevertheless — nothing is perfect, so of course (new) media couldn’t be either.

Why I Heart Media

At it’s worst media is just a collection of tools used to scream : Look at me!. In it’s purest form, however, I believe media is used to communicate 4 simple words saying: you are not alone.

Now I’m not sure if that’s true or not, but for someone who has been batteling depression since the age of 14 I took great comfort in that idea. So here is me, using my media, saying to you:

You are not alone.

Why I Heart My Media

I love media because it allows me to stay connected from the comfort of my own home. My phone is a gateway to what’s happening around me, it allows me to live and learn through other people’s posts and stay informed with important events happening around the world. Also, with just a few clicks, I ‘m able to find out what Kylie Jenner is doing at that exact moment.
