Why I heart media

Media to me isn’t just something that we do or practice, it’s something so deeply integrated in our current way of living that it now has functions that far exceed the simple use of an app. For me the most fascinating thing about media in the current day is that it has the ability to bring people together from all around the globe (Global Village in essence).

My example to illustrate this is the radio/Soundcloud show Soulection. What started as a show of radio dj/producer Joe Kay, this platform has now exceeded 450.000 followers on Soundcloud, has grown to an official label and, performs all over the world. They have achieved this by using the power of social media (liking and sharing the shows the post every week) and inviting artists from all over the world and the same scene onto the show to perform and interview. There isn’t a show that goes by without the host telling you that ‘Music brought us here’ and that we’re all part of a bigger community.

This Saturday ‘Soulection’ is performing during ADE and the tickets have already sold out. The people who go to the show all have the same mindset about why they are there  (The music and the vibe) and the funny thing is, it’s only positive. Somehow a radio dj from Los Angeles has created a platform on social media which enables people to come together only by posting a radio show on Soundcloud every week, and that’s why I Heart Media.

Here’s the latest show, for those interested: https://soundcloud.com/soulection/soulection-radio-show-330

Why I heart my media

I heart my media. I really do. Who doesn’t anyway? I love the way they make me feel, the way they make my life easier, even the way they look. My favorite media is my analog camera.Well, analog cameras may be out of fashion, but they are slowly making their cameback. In my case, Zenit 120 is a metal Russian camera which captures my memories
in real life paper. Yes! Real paper. Isn’t that odd in a reallity where everything
is projected in a touch screen? Thething I love the most in the process
οf analog photography is the waiting period of the development. In modern life everythingis so directly. People take a picture of a friend or their pet οr a statue and can easily share it all over the world with the press of a button. But this is what excites me the most in analog photography.

The reason why I heart media is obviously not just a reason, it’s probably more like a story, confuse feelings, mixed signals, dreams.

When I was 13 and people would ask me what i wanted to be when I grow up I always said a revolutionary, when I was 15, in the summer after we graduate from middle school me and my friends wanted to change the world and that’s when I started to love media.

The story it’s actually very embarrassing to tell because, even though i consider being naive a positive trait of my personality, we were like the supersayan version of a normal naive people, plus we were preadolescents with nothing to worry about, other than, of course, the common good.

We created our own manifesto which was, in fact, just one powerful sentence: revolutions start from the bottom, with us being the bottom, I guess. The next step was to really understand why we didn’t like how things were and why we wanted to transform everything, we were watching lots of movies together, to form our culture, I recall the Black Swan, The Dictator, Shutter Island and The Social Network as our main inspiration, they actually really freaked us out. So than we had out mantra, we had our culture, next thing on the list was starting to revolt.

We were writing so much, drawing, taking pictures, we walked through all the towns nearby to collect a very small stone from every playground because children were the future and it made everything more mystical and also all them had the power to give us good vibes or something. We bought permanent markers (spray painting was a little too thug for us) and we started writing inspiring, revolutionary quotes on playground mostly, sometimes parks, never houses cause that would have been rude, we were spreading the word and we were already feeling that something was changing.

#LeRivoluzionipartonoDalBasso was our twitter hashtag (just our mantra in italian) and out secret code. We were taking pictures and posting them on facebook with text and little poems about what was important for us, we were trying to move something that seemed standing still, untouchable, but we were there trying and trying and trying again, under our philosophy of drops that make up oceans, we wanted to be waves, we wanted to carve stones.

That’s basically the first time somebody ever read something I wrote, even though I would never sign my stuff, I started loving photography and loving my friends more, and then we started getting into spirits and mental powers and lucid dreams, but the point is that for me media is more or less the same magical tool that I can use to understand myself, express what I am and what i think, it teaches me how I want to shape the way I behave and what I find important to tell.                                                                                                       I still believe i can carve stones.

Why I love media

The reason why I love media is very simple actually: I love the fact that media is everything we see but mostly that media is everything that we do not see. I love the fact that I can call my dad when he is in foreign countries, I love the fact that I can take pictures of my dog all day and send them to my friends immediately if I want so but most of all I love the fact that I am given the opportunity to explore this world because of media.

Oriol Subirada – Why I love media

Media, from movies to memes, connects you to others in a deep, intrinsicate way, different from anything else. A person on the other side of the globe, who you could never think of meeting, might feel the exact same way you did when you both saw an article in the news, or a funny picture on the internet, or a movie in the cinema.

This extra sensorial net built around the globe that is media, that only deepens and grows, catches all of us like flies, but at the same time, connects us all and allows us to share and live experiences, thoughts and ideas that we could not share otherwise.

This for me is media, a lovely yet dangerous trap that I cannot wait to step on every morning

Why I ❤️ Media

It is almost impossible to pin-point one specific reason why I love media.  From pointless (addictive) buzzfeed quizzes #notsponsored, to the ability to communicate with people all across the globe in an instant. We may not be the generation that has always lived with media like the babies of today will be, but we grew up with it… and as we get older it gets more and more difficult to remember a time when media wasn’t the way it is today. Media is practical, it’s entertainment, it’s anything you want it to be really. So perhaps that is why I heart media most of all, for the way it can be molded and used to fit whatever lifestyle you want to follow (haha media puns) or perhaps to show you the lifestyle you aspire to lead.

Why I heart my media

I heart my media, because I met some of my best friends via media. Some people say you better can’t talk too much to people on the internet, because they can be a catfish. I learned from the last couple of years that social media is a way to find people with the same hobbies and interests and a very easy way to stay in contact with them. Our group of friends live in different parts of the country and we don’t see each other often, but we stay connected via social media. These friends I wouldn’t have met if social media wasn’t a thing. We go to music concerts and festivals in the whole country together and sometimes even outside of the country. I wouldn’t do that if I hadn’t met them. This is why I love my media.

Why I Heart My Media

Media is everything in one, its probably the most useful practice in the society nowadays. From experience, it has opened the opportunity for me to learn, develop, socialize, and meet new people, all through the use of Media.

Given that I have a somewhat international background, Social media played a big part on keeping my relationship with my friends and family all over the world.
