WHY I HEART MY MEDIA

I heart my media, because my media hearts me.

So, I was born 1995 and here’s my brief timeline using media:

1998: My very first kid’s cassette recorder sing along with a microphone.

Only got this because my parents probably wanted me to stay busy and be creative.

1999: My father gave me a self-recorded tape with songs for my 4th birthday.

Only to have music at my party.

2000: My first MP3 Player/Radio from a Barbie surprise egg.

Only got this because it was my sisters birthday and my parents thought I’d get jealous.

2003: My first credit cell phone – a Nokia.

Only to call/text my parents for emergencies.

2005: My first blue iPod Nano.

Only to listen to music and play Bricks.

2006: My first digital Sony camera.

Only to be able to take pictures/videos, and wouldn’t annoy my dad to always use his analog camera.

2008: My first and only time I created my Facebook account.

Only too add school friends.

2009: My first touchscreen smartphone – a Samsung.

Only to send text or call people.

(…and everyone knows that when you “press the (internet) button”, your parents would rage)

2010: My first MacBook – the old white one.

To use the laptop for school work.

2010: My first iPhone – the iPhone 4.

To be updated with my environment and the media world.

2012: My first iMac.

To use it for school, because my MacBook broke.

2014: My first DSLR camera – a Nikon.

To use for taking pictures/videos of family trips and other occasions.

2014: My first MacBook Pro.

To use it for school, because the white MacBook broke and the iMac cannot be taken to school.

2015: My first self-purchased iPhone 6.

To have a functioning phone again, as my iPhone 4 got slower and slower.

Why did I make a timeline? I wanted to see how much media I posess since I was born. I must say it shocked me, but at the same time I told myself “it’s okay”. I said it was okay, because without my media I would have not been able to live the kind of I life I lived until now. Staying in touch, calling/texting people and family, taking pictures or recording videos, having access to the internet 24/7 and saving memories. So, to answer your question: Why do I heart media?

As you can read above, most of my life included media and I felt like I needed to have certain media in order to pursue specific things. This is why I believe “I heart my media, because my media hearts me”, as it is a two-way street relationship where we give and take.

  1. We take the functionalities of the media to give something to society and our environment.
  2. The media gives us its functionalities to allow us to give something to society and our environment.

Either way, we go hand-in-hand.

Media, I love you.

Why I Heart My Media

Every week I watch a YouTube-video from The Michalaks, a family who film their life. Although I don’t really know them, I feel a connection with them. Media can break the boundaries of distance, not knowing people and care about things that aren’t really in your life. I think that nothing can compare to Media and that’s why I love it so much.

I Heart Media

How can you not heart media. Media is great. The people who constantly whine about how we’re “too dependent” on it should be thrown into the woods without any media. See how much fun that is. (It probably sucks). With Media we have basically enhanced the human experience to perfection. We can know anything we want, see anything we want, still can’t do anything we want because of laws and ethics and things but we’ll get there eventually.

The only bad thing about media is that I can see my ex doing a lot better than I am right now but like give me another few weeks and then media will be objectively perfect.

Why I heart my media

Media is for me, the greatest and yet the worse classroom. Media is an endless source of information, from books, films, and even social media. With the arrival of the internet, greater quantities of information are able to circle the world and spread at an unprecedented rate. The variety of information available is why i love it. I can find information on how to play the guitar, the latest with the situation in the middle east, and even movie reviews without leaving my seat. Media also allows me to interact with many different individuals, some of whom i know, others not yet. Even though we all know of the dangers that come along with talking to a stranger online, it still is a tool to connect people. It is now easier to get in contact and stay in contact with the people you meet, wherever you are in the world. And just like in a classroom, you also have a break with entertainment. Video games, films, and youtube videos are all great source of entertainment, often buzzing with originality.

However it is also the worst classroom for two reasons. It can be sometimes hard to verify the accuracy of the source you are using online, especially if it is from a small website or youtube video. The second reason why the media is the worst classroom is the just like in every other classroom, the media contains bully’s, people who use media as a tool to threaten or hurt someone, but behind a computer screen, with very little repercussion.

Why I Heart Media

The reason “Why I Heart Media” is that I decided what to do with my spare time on Social Media. Finding a new concert, information about a party where all your friends go and new movie trailers are examples how Social Media helps me to fill my spare time.

And of course it’s a perfect medium for finding what your friends are up to right now. Next time you see them you can ask about it! Most of the times they would not tell it, thinking you’re not interested in it. Or am I the only one stalking people 😉

On the other hand its a good way to share photo’s, video’s, information you want your friends needs to see/know. Sometimes very important information!

And last it is your spare time! You can easily be online for hours without having a moment of boredom. Laughing at memes, looking at Youtube movies and watching small parts of television shows. Welcome to the world of Media. You will love it! Like I Heart Media.

Thoughts on media

Sometimes i hear people say that next to the standard human needs of food and shelter, the 21st century human constantly needs an active internet connection. Ofcourse this is not true, but for most of us it would be a challenge to disconnect ourselves from devices like television, laptop and mobile Phone. We all know not everyone is too happy about people constantly staring at screens, but i think we can all agree that the interactive media offers us great advantages. Not only is it easier than ever before to communicate with our friends through online profiles, we also have acces to an amount of information that keeps on growing. Back in the day people were limited to the information their local library had to offer, but today we have acces to almost everything other people have written online. Anytime and anywhere i can find what i want, all i need is a working Phone with internet connection.

Now, the increasing amount of people using smartphones in their daily lives is not really a problem for me. But what does concern me is our privacy disappearing. Because we do so much of our business on the internet, it is possible for companies, governments and hackers to create a profile from us for theirselves. Everything we do online, even the time we stare at an advertisement, can be recorded. We do not know what happens with this data and this frightens me. In my personal opinion, we really need stricter laws regarding online privacy.

Why I heart media

I love media because media is magical.

I feel like a high level warlock with a doomguard when browsing the internet or calling my friends back in the states.

It literally gives you the ability to do almost anything you want.

You want a video of dog’s speaking? You got it.

You want to wake up at 5:45? Done.

Forgot how to make empanada’s? Recipe found.

Can’t find your way to the market? Navigation route complete.

Miss your mother? Dial the phone.

Inspired to play the acordian? Order one online.

Feeling lonely? Hello Tinder.

Can’t remember lyrics to a song? Look em up’.

Need some cash? Craigslist is your friend.

Weird rash on your back? Doctor’s appointment booked.

I would be so lost without media.

I wouldnt even know what time it was.

A world without media is a world without magic.

In love with Media

Why I love Media?

Media is my life. I would not live without Media. It would be impossible to wake up on time in the morning, go somewhere without getting lost or simply stay social. You want to go out so you text your friend or check the events list on Facebook.

Media is my addiction. According to Moment, the app installed on my iPhone, I spend on average 13 hours a day on my phone and I can agree that is a disaster. I sleep with my phone, eat, drive bicycle, even when I go to the shower it is still with me. When I do not spend time on my phone, I do not have a rest from Media, I spent it on my laptop.

In addition, Media are my friends. I, as a person, who lives for already four years abroad, need to stay connected to your friends and family.  When your best friend is in another country and the whole two years before you lived five minutes away from each other and seen each other every single day. Therefore, it is very difficult now not of hear from her through a day and Facebook allows me to even when there are 1500 kilometers between us.

Media is my entertainment. 10 years ago it was difficult for moms to get their children out from the playground, nowadays it is difficult to get them off computers. It takes all our free time, we watch a movie, play video games, listen to music and even read thanks to Media.

That is why I love Media.
