Why I Heart My Media

Media (in all its forms) play such a big part in my life, wether it’s for school, work, social connections or just pure enjoyment. I have spent many an hour online mindlessly scrolling through Facebook, twitter, Instagram, Tumblr (you name it, I probably have an account for it) just for a good laugh.

I went traveling to the other side of the world last year for five months. Without media, I would’ve never taken that trip. The fact that home was more than a 24 hour flight away was terrifying, but because I had media, I could text and call my family and friends at any given moment. Usually this was somewhere in the middle of the night because of that damn time difference, but hey, we could still talk. Media has given me this opportunity to discover parts of the world on my own, with ‘home’ right in my pocket.

Most of my personality has been formed by social media as well. If I think something’s funny, I probably found it on the internet. Humor is very important to me, and knowing that people all around the world can understand some very meta meme that I (or someone else) posted, and that they are laughing with me, is so cool. The meme I attached to this text is one of those memes that you will get if you spend as much time on the internet as I do, so if you don’t get it, consider yourself lucky (or unlucky, for that matter)

Why I heart media

I love media because it helps me a lot. Communication, information, guidance (+ adorable cat pics).
It’s so easy nowadays to communicate with somebody on the other side of the planet, and for this, I love media the most.
Media gives me access to massive information, whenever I want to, on all devices
(I only need to have internet).
New country, new city = Google Maps is my friend.
What I also love about media is that if you are creative, you have endless possibilities to promote your work and get noticed through Instagram, Youtube, Facebook etc.
It’s 1 a.m now so I’m just going to watch some cute otter gifs.
Live long and prosper Media.

Why I heart my media?

Yesterday I lost my phone. And in a way it actually felt like losing one of my senses. Today, there have been so many times that I missed it, that I reached out for it and couldn’t find it in my pocket or on the table next to me.

This morning, I couldn’t even set an alarm to wake up. I was not able to see the pictures of the party I went to, was late for an appointment because I had no agenda anymore, couldn’t find my way to a place I was supposed to go to, wasn’t able to listen to music while riding my bike, nor could I dress according to the weather. I was not even able to communicate with my best friend who is studying in Hong Kong.

Yes, I realised how ‘addicted’ I am to this device. But do I care? Do I have the feeling that I should use my phone less when I get it back? Not really. Because even though many people see the increasing phone usage as a harmful fact for society, I think it does a lot of good too. Why shouldn’t we take advantage of all the knowledge our phones have to offer us? Why not make our life so much easier?

Why I Heart My Media

Why I heart my media? Is such a good question to answer it. Media is everywhere and I never thought about it before. I couldn’t imagine that Media is the part of my life and an integral part of human life. Every day I take my phone and begin to read some news on Twitter, look at the pictures on Instagram and read different kinds of posts about what I am interested in. By this apps, people can develop or degrade- this is the choice of everyone. Also, this applies not only to apps but also to television.
Media has a very versatile concept. Media is for everywhere and for everyone. It affects the interests of each of us and absorbs the minds of people. Media might be a monster or as a new book, and this two characteristic depends on what the person wants.
I like media because our life is becoming more modern day by day because of the new technologies which develop media. It gives us an opportunity to develop and develop our life. Media is the evolution of the modern world, which brings people together, helps to learn the world, absorbs and at the same time kills the mind of people who don’t know the extent of use and don’t know the different methods of using the media. However, media for me this is development.

What is undeniable about media is that it broadens our horizons. That doesn’t mean it always does so in a positive way. However, it is up to us taking advantage of all the possibilities that media provides.

That is what I ultimately love about my media, it allows me to have bigger goals. Centuries ago, one could only dream about being just as those from the closer environment. Our networked society, on the other hand, has enable me to be writing this as an international student at the UvA, to find a place to live in Amsterdam from my home country, to travel to other places on Earth (sometimes physically, sometimes virtually) and to aspire to become a good journalist one day. It makes it easier for me to love him and my friends, even though they are miles away. Media makes me part of a world that has no borders or limits.

What else can we ask for?

Love – Hate

Media has made my life so much easier. The one thing I truly love about media is that you can find ANYTHING you want in just seconds. Maybe it is because I am lazy, but hey how cool is it that you can find tons of information about e.g. the life of Leonardo di Caprio and it just one click away.

The other thing that I truly love about media is how easy it is to maintain contact with my loved ones and with friends and family that I do not see often, because of our busy lives.

I like very long phone calls and how amazing it is that I now can Facetime (audio) with that one boy I like and do not have to worry about the phone bill by the end of the month. The negative side is that I can see when he was last seen online on e.g. Whatsapp and did not answer my message. You start to contemplate, but maybe he is just busy with work or something…

It really is a love/hate relationship with media I guess – BUT MORE A LOVE THING.

Well if you have some spare time (because we students really have plenty of spare time #SOG – SOG = Studie Ontwijkend Gedrag = Study avoiding behaviour) just watch some meme (videos) and there you go, 2 hours later… Gotta love the Interwebs :).

Why I Heart My Media?

When I think about what does the word “Media” means!  It takes me to unlimited space of information. What can media do? This is the most considerable question for me!  Media tells you exactly what you want to know within an article or few words and sometimes photo is more than enough. Media are highlight the human suffer and try to push the whole world to tackle it, it is the forth power who observe and correct.

With media, I have the power to change and affect the people of the world and the policy of their rulers. Moreover, I am a free ticket for every one on this land, because it senses the other’s actions everywhere.

Why I Love Media

“Loving” media is not something I actively think about, but once I started thinking about this blog post, I realised it’s something I’m programmed to love because my life completely revolves around it. It’s a part of me, and everyone else I know. It affects my life on a daily basis; so much that I don’t even realise it.

Media makes me feel as though I’m a part of something bigger. There’s a sense of belonging I feel that comes from sharing and viewing information on the same platform as everybody else. It makes me feel closer to my family and friends who are apart from me, celebrities I like from around the world, people I don’t personally know but look up to and so on.

It’s also really great how I don’t have to always express how I feel through words. I can do it through pictures, videos, symbols, emojis and so much more. I also like the fact that media opens up the world to all kinds of people. It has a place for everybody.

It’s also a fantastic learning platform. I can learn anything I want to, from baking an egg to astrophysics. It can educate the world by broadening our views on culture, religion, ethics, language and so on. It’s a great place for people to come together and share what they believe in, fight for their rights, express their opinions and much, much more. My only hope for the future of media is that we use it to do more good.

Media in all its forms.

Since the beginning of time, humans have obsessed over every new development: the red flower, farming, coal, colonization, advanced nuclear weapons, Myspace, selfies and so on. I believe Media is so much more than just the social network that we define it as today and that despite its recent popularity, Media has always been an important component in our evolution, whether it was through market gossip, or writing a letter, or even the influence of theatre. The spread of globalization, internationalism and building connections that soon might be intergalactic. In every new discovery: space, blockbusters, news reports or even in sending a text, it means that we as humans are only getting closer together and evolving into advanced intelligent species. By creating more and more hybrids of telecommunications we only advance further.

That is why I love Media, because it reminds me of how far apart we were before, and now with a touch of a fingertip, the world is right before our eyes. I love Media because like all the best things in life, it is an oxymoron. it brings us closer together yet it also sets us apart, we think we know so much and yet we still know so little. It is everything, yet it is nothing. And like all oxymorons, there is beauty in both its blessings and its blemishes. Media is the story of our past, present and future, in its every form.

Why I Heart Media

As a dj/producer, media are really important to share and discover new music. I use media to connect with other awesome artists and I have the oppertunity to send my new tracks to great DJs all over the world.

Thanks to media, I am able to receive amazing footage like the video below, in which music that I created gets played in the biggest club of London: The Ministry Of Sound. Through media, I can experience the way the crowd responds to my creations while I’m not even there.
